Time: How We Chose the 2018 TIME 100 List of the World's Most Influential People

One of the most stirring moments in this year’s billion-dollar blockbuster Black Panther, whose director, Ryan Coogler, and lead actor, Chadwick Boseman, are both on this year’s TIME 100, comes early in the film. A terrorist attack has upended the kingdom of Wakanda. As Boseman’s T’Challa returns to take the throne, his mother, played by Angela Bassett, reassures him, “My son, it is your time.”

TIME’s annual list of the world’s most influential people is a designation of individuals whose time, in our estimation, is now. The TIME 100 isn’t a measure of power, though many on the list wield it. Nor is it a collection of milestones accumulated. As our staff considers candidates, we often find ourselves wowed by those with stunning lifetime achievements. But editorial director Dan Macsai, maestro of the TIME 100, brings us back to the key question: Was this their year?

Update: Hmmmm .... Russian President Putin did not make the list .... Are we done with Russiagate? TIME leaves Putin off ‘100 most influential’ list (RT).

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE is on the list and Putin is not?

Time magazine is part of that polyamorous, incestuous North East corridor echo chamber of journalists and pols.

SAVANNAH GUTHRIE would be unknown bvy 1./2 or 2/3rds of the nation if not for Matt Lauer dong what many men have done since the dawn of time. Savannah's profile is raised because M<att Lauer was catting around and much, much worse and so she is now somehow important?

She is a celebrity news reader and morning TV talk host.

All the Time Magazine list tells me is what the liberal 'literati' (I'll use that term loosely, very loosely), is what the Left thinks is important, wants to say is important or what they think is supposed to be.

Putin is imprtant. How do I know?

You know a person is important when lots of people wish that they were not important, but they still are.

Putin is like XI JINPING, Kim Jong Un. They are important regardless if we like it.

It's a pop magazine today, who cares.

"It's a pop magazine today, who cares."

Okay, I misread you comment, when I first read it. I agree with the comment.

Back in the day Time, US News & World Report & Newsweek were serious magazines.

Oh well spilt milk. There are alternatives.

Who cares!? I do care about accurate information being sent to people. It's important to portray the world as it is; not as you would like it to be. This is why media is dead!

The liberals. The liberals
Guess who?

Fred,

Conservatives run Time magazine?

They do nit.

So of course it is ... the Liberals!

Can you defend listing Savannah Guthrie? How many people know, who she is or consider a thought leader? What percentage?

I dare say the CEO of Apple is more important than Savannah.

I do not bother with magazines and am amused by those getting riled about such matters

Fred,

The NYT was the national newspaper of record growing up.

Time was the magazine of record.

It just goes to show you that if you build anything the rats will climb aboard.
