SCMP: ‘North Korea is a time bomb’: government advisers urge China to prepare for war

The risk of conflict on the Korean peninsula is the highest its been in decades and Beijing must mobilise resources for fallout, observers say.

China must be ready for a war on the Korean peninsula, with the risk of conflict higher than ever before, Chinese government advisers and a retired senior military officer warned on Saturday.

Beijing, once seen as Pyongyang’s key ally with sway over its neighbour, was losing control of the situation, they warned.

“Conditions on the peninsula now make for the biggest risk of a war in decades,” said Renmin University international relations professor Shi Yinhong, who also advises the State Council, China’s cabinet.

Shi said US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were locked in a vicious cycle of threats and it was already too late for China to avert it. At best, Beijing could stall a full-blown conflict.

You reap what you sow.

Selling military equipment and even the rocket fuel to North Korea did not help, China. You are part of this problem. You protected North Korea. You caused this.

Now own up to it and help the U.S. instead of threatening it. wtf are you guys thinking over there? Imagine the US would help Taiwan to get Nuclear weapons, make them mobile with mobile missile launch systems and then also sell rocket fuel to them as you did to North Korea. What would you do? You would be at war already, with foam in front of your mouths.

Meanwhile Chinese state propaganda in the form of online comments :

"Stand up, those Chinese who are not willing to be vassals. Let's join our blood and flesh together to create a new wall. When PRC reaches the pinnacle of predicament, every Chinese would bellow the last holler. Stand up, stand up, stand up, we Chinese people join hearts together, withstanding our enemies barrage of fire, move forward, move forward, and move forward forward."

Poorly translated but you get the idea. Reading for war. Not against north Korea, but against the US and "white supremacy".

@wnu I think we'll see at least a proxy war between the US and China if China does not own up to what it did but instead keeps blaming the west, the US and white supremacists (basically calling the west racist even though Chinese are known to be super racist against blacks and Indians)...I'm telling you, they believe in this. The problem in a country of 1.45bn people is that only 200million of them ever got to travel, mostly in asia only like Vietnam, maybe less than 1% of chinese have ever met an American or European. 99% get state propaganda and filtered Internet. They don't know anything else almost. My friends in shanghai etc got better information of course, but those are 20million, most of them overworked and no time to read international news/have time to keep finding and updating/changing their vpn to get around the great firewall of China.

When a country increases military spending and threats like china and at the same time makes it harder for its population to see what's going on, prepare for war
