Reuters: U.S. soldiers in Iraq were killed by artillery 'mishap': Pentagon

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Army artillery "mishap" was responsible for the deaths of two U.S. service members in northern Iraq over the weekend, a Pentagon official said on Monday.

Two U.S. service members were killed and five injured in northern Iraq on Sunday.

In a statement later on Monday the Pentagon identified those killed as Sergeant Allen Stigler Jr., 22, of Arlington, Texas, and Sergeant Roshain E. Brooks, 30, of Brooklyn, New York, both members of the 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers.

The U.S. Army is investigating the incident, it said.

two young African Americans. This old guy, in 1947/48 sent to Ft Lee. Had weekend pass, got on bush. Driver told me the back was for "colored." I had to move up...I told him I was on military reservation and could sit where I wanted. He drove on. Outside main gate, driver stopped:We are in Virginia now. Up front or off....and in 1950, called back to service for Korean war, Truman had integrated our armed forces...it worked and so 1957, LBJ integrated the South, losing it of course politically to the GOP. Times change. Things evolve, seem to get better. And yet look at what is dominating the papers and tv these past few days
