Ukraine Expects U.S. Military Help If War With Russia Starts -- Jamie Dettmer, Daily Beast
Leaders in Kiev don’t want to call openly for military assistance from the United States and Europe, but they know they need it desperately.
Former World-boxing-champion-turned-politician Vitali Klitschko, a leading contender to become Ukraine’s next president, is none too happy with the West’s response to Moscow’s seizure of Crimea, at least so far. But if Ukraine has to fight to stop more Russian land grabs, he told a press conference, he expects American backing.
Asked afterward what sort of United States support is needed, he tried not to get too specific. The matter of military aid, he told The Daily Beast, is “a very sensitive question.” But Klitschko said Ukraine will have no other choice but to defend itself “if Russia continues aggression” and at that point “support from all democratic forces, from all democratic countries” will be needed.

My Comment: At the moment the U.S. has only promised MREs (military food rations). But a number of US senators (Sen. McCain and Sen. Johnson) are now coming out in support of sending lethal U.S. military aid to Ukraine. With these demands increasing ... the White House has remained eerily silent .... but this may change in the days/weeks/or months ahead.
In the event of an open conflict between Russia and Ukraine .... I do not see Ukrainian military forces being able to muster much of a defense. They will probably resort to asymmetrical warfare and will hope that this will be enough to bleed the Russian forces dry. But in the event that the U.S. and NATO do openly intervene in such a conflict by shipping weapons .... we will be then entering a very dark place because Russia would interpret such an act as a declaration of war against them .... and their nuclear weapons are going to be taken out of their bunkers for deployment and targeted at us. After that .... anything will be possible.

These are not "leaders in Kiev" they are criminals who have taken over the government. When they speak they are not "Ukraine." They were not elected and they have no legal authority. I hope Russia gets them and hangs them.
Don Bacon you sound like my mother. Seriously .... my mother does not know who these people in this interim government are but she knows what they are .... and you are right .... they are not the believers in democracy that many in the western media like to paint them as.
I have yet to determine precisely when Ukraine threatened Russia. It must have happened but I missed it. So if I am correct previous comments condone invasion from Moscow in order to replace the new Ukraine government with cronies and thieves from the Kremlin. Putin condemns the so called fascists from Kiev but sure does act a lot like Hitler in his solution. If Putin is allowed to get away with this no one in the world will be safe from this lunatic. I hope reasonable people will see that the conspiracies start in Moscow not Kiev.
